Sleeping in the Woods
After Christmas this year I had come to realize that both my husband and I really liked our room at Christmas time which set me to pondering. I do redecorate my room on some level for Christmas. I change out my quilt to a Christmas woodland theme and add a small woodland themed Christmas tree complete with white twinkling lights. There's something about laying in bed at Christmas time with just the Christmas lights on that puts you in that romantic Christmas spirit.
Several times though, through this last season my husband had made comments about how much he liked our room. Normally, he doesn't notice much when I add or take away in our bedroom as long as what he needs is there when he needs it. This really, for some reason, got me thinking this year, "I want him to like our bedroom year round, not just at Christmas." Thus I found myself in pondering mode.
First off, I want to say, I have ALWAYS been against "themed" rooms for adults. It just felt juvenile to have a theme in our bedroom as the two functioning adults in the house. I mean, we have done lots of themed bedrooms over the years: Noah's Ark, Raggedy Ann and Andy, Tinker Belle, Hula Monkeys, we have done our share of themes. However, never once did those themes cross the threshold of the Master Bedroom... until this year. YIKES, I still can't believe I went there and yet here we are.
After much thought on the Christmas room I realized that one thing I think we both liked about Christmas was the woodland coziness that it created in our room. When I thought about it, that made TOTAL sense. For both my husband, and myself, probably our favorite place to be together is camping in the woods, in the mountains, the smell of pine trees intoxicating our senses. We LOVE IT! It's been our happy place for as long as I can remember and we raised our girls with a huge love of camping so many of our greatest memories as a family and with friends are in the campground. So... the camping bedroom was born. Yes, I did my bedroom in a camping theme and we LOVE it. It is complete with lanterns, pine cones, evergreen and even that pine cone smell thanks to Yankee Candle Co.
Our new room has created the most wonderful get away. I love to be in there with the twinkle lights mixed in pine cones with the warm browns, greens and golds. It has the perfect feel for my husband and myself and I can honestly say I have never loved a bedroom more.
Most of my new decor for my room had to be made. Camping decor is not something you find everywhere, albeit it's out there, it's not super easy to come by. I also didn't want moose and bears all over my room. Maybe a little, but not the main them in my wall.
I started out with just the right quilt that met what I wanted. I looked at hundreds and finally landed on one from Amazon. I changed out my slip covers on some of my bed pillow, courtesy of Amazon as well. I added greenery to the top of my headboard and added huge pine cones that we found while on vacation. I ran white Christmas lights underneath the greenery and voila! It created perfect camping ambiance in the evening. After creating a few pieces of wall art, it all started coming together.
I wouldn't say I am completely done, but I am super thrilled with where it is going. Here are some pictures of a few things I created for my Camping themed bedroom. I would love your feed
back and love to hear what fun you have had, creating the bedroom that is just right for you! Leave your comments below and I will be sure to respond!
Happy decorating and Happy Creating!
