Got it from my Grandma and my Mama!
So Coffee Can Creations? An internet based business that has to do with crafts? There's gotta be a story there!
I made three logos, with three different names and NONE of them hit me in the feels. What did I want my business to be about? All things creative, making a house a home, and sharing what I have learned over 40 years of creativity. I wanted to show that making a home out of your creations is not just about tape, hot glue, SVG's and repurposed furniture. It's about putting your heart out there, allowing your heart to show in the way you nest and sharing the small things that show your family how much you love them. Also, it doesn't have to be about how much money is in your checking account. Now, I love a shopping trip to Hobby Lobby as much as the next girl, but money does not to be a deterrent to making your house a home. You also don't have to have a big beautiful house, that you own, to have a home. I have never owned my own home, not yet at least, and boy have I lived in some doozies. But... I have always taken where I lived and made it our home.
"... three different names and NONE of them hit me in the feels"
So, as I was pondering all this I watched a Youtube video where one of my favorite craft influencers called herself a "Renaissance Crafter". What...? I'd never heard that before! She went on to explain that it was someone who loved to craft and grew up learning and doing all the "old school" craft mediums, the ones a lot my generation have forgotten how to do. Sewing, crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching, candle wicking... the ones that have sort of gone out of style in some circles. I wanted to raise by hand right there and shout, "oh! oh! oh! that's me, that's me!"
"Thinking about what I wanted for my business and Youtube channel was connecting with this idea of all the crafting that had been passed onto me. "
As I fell asleep that night I couldn't get this out of my head. Something about all these old school crafts my Mom and Grandma had taught me, hit me in the feels. Thinking about what I wanted for my business and Youtube channel was connecting with this idea of all the crafting that had been passed onto me. The next day, as I was still pondering this connection I was feeling, I thought of a memory. One of the things my Grandma used to tell me was "Soap is free and beauty doesn't take money."
"Simple, leftover, and yet somehow beautiful and inviting."
This was where it had all started for me. My grandparents were the poorest of the poor, they didn't have a-lot of earthly possessions, but what my Grandma gave me, taught me and showed me, is honestly one of the greatest treasures I've ever been given; anyone can make their house a home.... no matter how much money you have, no matter how nice the house you live in is... you can make anywhere cozy, comfortable, and a home. Something she taught my Mom and my Mom also passed on to me. I had a memory of all the beautiful flowers my Grandma had and how most of them were planted from seeds or cuttings and most of them were planted in old Coffee cans. Simple, leftover, and yet somehow beautiful and inviting. In that moment, in that thought, "Coffee~Can Creations" was born. My heart jumped and a I knew I had the name for my business.... best of all, it hit me in all the feels.
Thank you Grandma Mary, thank you Mom.... here I go... wish me luck!
